I don't even have the words to describe this weekend so please forgive me as I steal others...

two tickets to the show $280.00
round trip airfare and bus $510.00
hotel room $138.00
assorted CDs, souvenirs
and drinks... $500.00

meeting Ann from Minnesota on the bus to the hotel...

trading Jukes war stories with Paul and Rebecca from Connecticut...

lunch with Dean and Hank from Ohio...

.

Danni's near paralysis at the thought of talking to an actual Juke in the autograph room...

Jeff Kazee to Danni at the autograph table: "YOU'RE Danni Girl?? Wow!"...
the great luck of having a second Danni...

Vitamin V...

a small smile, firm handshake and warm greeting: "Hi. I'm Ed Manion."...
my silent reaction: "Holy crap!! THE Ed Manion??!!"...

in alphabetical order: Debbie, Jane and Maggie...

"Sly" as a nickname is cool.
Sly the person is even cooler...

Mark Pender's support of the Girl Scouts of America.
And probably girl scouts everywhere...

Bobby Bandiera's laugh when I change his autograph room name sign to read Craven Moorehead...

La Bamba's laugh when I tell him I thought he was giving out pastel condoms ..

dinner with Carol, Mike, Danni and Sly...

"Kazee" sounds more like Kazoo than Crazy.
But either one works...

eleven hours of music doesn't sound like much but it's a lot...
it wasn't enough tho...

Pender holding a note longer than many men can make love...

Carole from California still not yet grown up.
Lucky girl and lucky us...

Joey Stann never stopped smiling all weekend...

Debbie May's surprise at being asked for an autograph...
my surprise that no one else asked her first...

my wife likes this as much as I do.
Maybe more...

Eileen from New Jersey sleeping by the lobby fireplace waiting for La Bamba.

Debbie and George Apgar's New Jersey Hall of Fame Museum...

finally meeting Stan and Kim...

19 Hubcaps playing behind La Bamba...

Rob Bandiera the next generation...

Southside Johnny jumping onstage with Jeff Kazee to start the weekend...

getting out of town before the storm...

the musicians hanging out with the crowd...

300 people just like me...

and finally...

Southside Johnny. HE thanked US...

Priceless.

Happy Trails

Oops. While making up my "priceless" list the other day I forgot to mention a couple of things.

Rich and Mary-Ellen Breton are best known for the brucelegs web page and their tireless work with the Kristen Ann Carr Fund. It was fun meeting and chatting with them and wouldn't you know it...the prime topic of conversation had nothing to do with any of that but rather why 14 year old boys take such long showers. Thanks, guys. I'm not sure that's how you want to be remembered but we're both in the same boat. Or shower.

I've had any number of chances to get autographs over the years but I'm not a collector and never bother. I did pick up Springsteen's for my wife sometime after a show in the early 80's when she didn't feel like battling a crowd. So it surprises me now, after the fact, that I was so eager to get the Jukes' autographs on Saturday. Helped also that I had them autograph my Jukes blue satin windbreaker {got a Jukette too -- Debbie autographed the sleeve}. Truth is, the only other autograph I've ever collected was Perry Como's on the programme of the first baseball game ever played at Shea Stadium. I'll bet you’re jealous.

Sometime during the Jukes show my legs were about to quit. So I went over to the chairs alongside the wall, all of whom had people standing on them, and sat down on the edge of one, careful not to squash the feet of the woman standing on it. She tapped me on the shoulder, smiled and told me to be careful or she'd "Bruce Lee" me into next Tuesday. She was kidding {I hope} but I was a little afraid. Seems she's married to a guy who's so tough, he likes to let Southside Johnny headbutt him. Yep -- that's how I met Stan and Kim.

So here in Atlanta it's mild enough to wear the aforementioned windbreaker. It has a funny effect. I seem to stand a little straighter and strut rather than walk, making sure I go slowly enough so EVERYBODY can read the back of that jacket. In the quiet aftermath of The Week After, a little self reflection indicates that listening to all that music and hanging with all those people has made me completely lose my mind. And I wouldn't change a thing.

Another Jukes fan in my family who couldn't make it will love the JUKESTOCK shirt I'm gonna buy her as soon as Debbie or Jane or Maggie or whoever is in charge puts them back on sale. In case I'm a little slow on the draw guys, save me one. I can score serious brownie points with the family if I come thru with this.

Happy Trails
